If you’ve followed my blog over the last few years, you’ll know I’m absolutely CRAZY about Halloween.
That kind of makes me a bit odd, because here in Australia it’s not such a common holiday.
Although, Woolworths did have part of an aisle dedicated to Halloween goodies today, which made me ridiculously happy!
Anyway…
It’s not a huge deal over here as it is in the Northern Hemisphere, but that doesn’t mean I don’t get a huge kick out celebrating it with my class.
Waaaay back in 2011, I set up my first ‘spooky’ classroom to celebrate the holiday, egged on by my fabulous (Canadian) bestie, Alex. I may have used her as an excuse, but really, I don’t actually need an excuse to celebrate Halloween (because I’ve done so every year since I was about 10 years old!). Anyway… here’s the main feature from the classroom that year:
Awesome masking-tape spiderweb and spooky eye cut-outs all over the classroom! I just love masking tape, but man did it drive me crazy setting it up. My tip: invest in decent tape, not cheap tape – cheap tape rips ridiculously!
Last year, I had a new classroom, but I still HAD to do my spiderweb floor. I can’t help it – I just love it.
(You know I’ll totally be rocking the spiderweb again this year, right?!!)
Added extras last year: jack-o-lantern lights, Halloween lanterns, ‘fire’ pits (actually raffia bundles my Mum found somewhere originally intended to be used for a scarecrow!). Also, the teddies (Eddie and Toby) are wearing musical Halloween ties!
And I covered the classroom in pretend spiderwebs. Because I could!
As part of our developmental play program on Halloween, Alex bought some pumpkins for the kids to pull seeds out of and then carve. Again, not really a part of our culture here in Australia, but totally fun and the kids had a ball pulling out the seeds. It was a new experience for them and they loved it! (So did I!)
Right now I’m beginning to plot what we’ll be doing Halloween week. I’ve got the decorations, but I’ll be going through some themed activities for the kids, because it’s fun and special and they’ve been asking about Halloween ALL. YEAR. ❤
But now, I have some of my Halloween resources created last year for you. I was hoping to get some new ones up, but alas I’ve been extremely time-poor of late. I may still get some happening. We’ll just see. But for those of you who are after some quick games/activities for your kids in the upcoming season, maybe there’ll be something below for you to try!
